Two months ago, a Pennsylvania man was electrocuted when he came into contact with a 7,000 volt live wire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to one news report, the man was working in a bucket truck in Fairview Township in York County, Pennsylvania when the accident occurred. His employer had been hired to re-route power lines for another company.
Electric shock accidents are usually deadly. If the person survives, there are usually severe burns, internal damage, physical scarring and disfigurement. The majority of work related electric shock accidents are caused by a violation of OSHA requirements related to use of unsafe equipment, failure to have a safe work environment or working too closely to an overhead power line.
In many work related electric shock accident cases, non-employer parties may be liable. Workers’ compensation is not the only type of compensation available. Any person or party whose negligence leads to a work related accident such as an electric shock accident may be liable to pay for medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering. Therefore, cases should be evaluated immediately by an experienced workplace accident lawyer who will provide a free consultation.
