‘How Was This Ruled a Suicide?’ Guy D’Andrea Featured in Miniseries About Ellen Greenberg Death

Ellen Greenberg

PHILADELPHIA – Laffey Bucci D’Andrea Reich & Ryan Co-Managing Partner Guy D’Andrea takes a central role in the new Hulu documentary Death in Apartment 603: What Happened to Ellen Greenberg. The three-part series revisits the mysterious 2011 death of Philadelphia teacher Ellen Greenberg, who suffered 20 stab wounds and multiple bruises in her apartment. The documentary examines why city officials ruled the case a suicide and highlights the unresolved questions that continue to surround her death.

Examining the Evidence and Legal Questions in the Ellen Greenberg Case

In 2015, while serving in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, Guy D’Andrea reviewed the Ellen Greenberg case. In the documentary, he joins other past investigators and examines critical details, including the unusual positioning of her body and signs that the attack may have incapacitated her. Investigators also note that the apartment door latched from the inside; however, surveillance footage contradicts claims that her fiancé, Sam Goldberg, had a security guard with him when he forced entry. This inconsistency, along with other overlooked evidence, underscores the complexities of the case. Guy’s insights help viewers grasp why the Greenberg family has pursued answers for 14 years, highlighting both the complexities of the evidence and the procedural gaps that have left the case unresolved.

“This documentary shines a light on a case that still demands justice,” says D’Andrea. “It shows more than one tragic night. It ensures that families are not left without real answers when a loved one dies under suspicious circumstances. Ellen’s parents have shown extraordinary courage. By sharing their story, we aim to keep public attention focused on the importance of a full and independent review.”

He draws on years of courtroom experience, having tried more than 100 jury trials and hundreds of bench trials, to hold powerful institutions accountable in cases involving sexual assault, child abuse, workplace violence, and other serious harms. Guy has previously discussed the Ellen Greenberg case on Nancy Grace, True Crime News, and Dr. Phil, sharing his perspective on the unresolved questions surrounding her death.

As the City of Philadelphia reopens its review of the original autopsy, Death in Apartment 603 underscores why the search for truth must continue. D’Andrea’s participation reflects his lifelong commitment to victims and survivors. “The Greenbergs deserve clarity and accountability,” says D’Andrea. “I’m honored to help ensure people hear their fight for answers.”
