PHILADELPHIA (October 2021) – Personal injury law firm Laffey Bucci D’Andrea Reich & Ryan is pleased to announce that Guy D’Andrea has been named among Philadelphia Business Journal’s fifth annual Best of the Bar. Only two attorneys who practice personal injury are included among these distinguished recipients. The 35 local honorees have distinguished themselves in their practice specialties and were selected from many nominations.
D’Andrea is a high-profile criminal and civil trial lawyer who has litigated over 100 jury trials and a countless number of bench trials. He frequently handles cases nationally involving sexual and physical assaults in institutional settings including boarding schools, residential treatment facilities, hospitals, universities, sports organizations, day care centers, and schools. In addition, he litigates cases against religious organizations who have permitted children to be abused for decades.
“I am honored to be recognized with this group of accomplished lawyers,” said D’Andrea. “I am beyond grateful to my clients for their bravery in coming forward and pursuing justice. I will continue to work tirelessly on their behalf.”
D’Andrea was appointed by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania this month to serve a three-year term on the Committee on the Rules of Evidence with only 8 other attorneys across the Commonwealth. In addition, he was voted in a for second term as Chair of the Young Lawyer’s Council, which is a part of the National Crime Victim Bar Association. The association provides support and resources to the civil attorneys representing survivors and who have dedicated their lives to advocating for justice for crime victim survivors. He also serves as Chair-Elect of the LGBT Caucus, which is one of four caucuses within the American Association of Justice.
“As the managing partner of our firm, it was my pleasure and privilege to nominate Guy,” said Jeffrey Laffey. “He works tirelessly on behalf of victims of institutional abuse. Just last year, he secured a record settlement of $52 million on behalf of 27 victims who endured years of sexual and physical abuse at the hands of adults who were supposed to protect, care and provide treatment for them at Christian boarding school Miracle Meadows. He continues to represent additional former students and litigation is pending. Guy is truly dedicated to protecting the rights of victims.”
D’Andrea received his law degree from Widener University School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Maryland.
The judges panel included Helen Pudlin, former general counsel at PNC Financial Services Corp.; Judge Frederica Massiah-Jackson, former president judge, Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas; and Catherine Carr, former executive director of Community Legal Services.
