Delaware Group Home Aide Charged with Sexual Abuse of Home Resident

According to a press release by the Delaware Attorney General’s office, a Wilmington, Delaware man has been charged with sexually abusing a group home resident. According to the press release, the sexual abuse occurred at a group home in Newark, New Castle County, Delaware.

The Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit began investigating after a report was made this past July. The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit investigates fraud and abuse of those who receive state Medicaid funds.

The man was employed as a group home aide and is alleged to have sexually abused a resident of the home. The victim has not been identified.

The aide has been charged multiple counts of Rape, Unlawful Sexual Contact and Patient Abuse. The most serious charge, Rape in the Second Degree, is a class B felony and carries a minimum penalty of 10 years in prison.

A defendant is guilty of Rape in the Second Degree when he or she engages in sexual intercourse without the victim’s consent or engages in sexual penetration under certain circumstances, such as:

  • without the victim’s consent and during the commission of a crime,
  • the victim is under the age of 16 and the act occurs during the commission of a crime, or
  • the victim is under the age of 16 and the defendant is in a position of authority, trust or supervision.
