Early this week, a roofing contractor fell 40 feet into a vat of acid in north New Jersey. According to northjersey.com, the 40 year old roofer was working on the roof of Swepco Tube LLC, when he fell through the roof into a vat of waist high acid. A co-worker jumped into the vat to rescue him.
Falling from heights such as roofs is one of the most common causes of work related accidents. The slightest bit of negligence can lead to catastrophic consequences. In workplace fall accidents in New Jersey, there are multiple parties who may be liable for the accident:
- contractors,
- subcontractors,
- owners,
- architects, and
- product manufacturers.
Under New Jersey law, employees are generally barred from suing their employers. However there is an exception for situations where the employer engaged in wrongful, intentional conduct which was substantially certain to cause injury. Prompt and through investigation by a knowledgeable workplace fall accident lawyer will reveal all sources of liability.
