Types of Spinal Cord Injuries
SCIs are often spoken about singularly as if there’s only one type of damage to a person’s spinal cord that can occur. That’s not the case. There are actually two primary types of injuries, each of which impacts a patient’s long-term prognosis differently, as follows:
- Complete spinal cord injuries: Can include paraplegia, tetraplegia, and quadriplegia.
- Incomplete spinal cord injuries: Functionality generally depends on where a person sustained impact along their spinal column.
